Richard "Dick" Lee Courtney, 88, of Lubbock was born March 20, 1928 in Widener, Arkansas to George and Mary Courtney. Dick attended Arkansas College in Batesville and later graduated from Columbia Bible College. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served 3 ½ years in Japan. He also met the love of his life Yvonne Anderson, while serving in the Navy and they married August of 1954 in Japan. Upon completion of Bible College, Dick and Yvonne returned to Japan as Missionaries for 15 years. Dick was a great football player in high school, college and in the Navy. He enjoyed sports. He & Yvonne were missionaries in Mexico for 20 years. After retirement Dick enjoyed meeting friends, sharing his faith, and leading Bible Studies at J & B Coffee and Starbucks. He touched many young lives through these meetings. He was a member of Melonie Park Church.

Dick went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Yvonne Courtney; 4 children: Ric Courtney of Lubbock, Vaughn Courtney & wife Ellen of Blanchard, OK, Ronnie Courtney & wife Sue of Bartlesville, OK and Cindy Everett & husband Eric of Wolfforth; 4 Grandsons, 4 Granddaughters, 3 Great-Grandchildren; 2 sisters: Frances Gasaway & husband Carl of Widener, Arkansas, and Louise Clemons & husband Lee of Mariana, Arkansas.

Private graveside services will be at 10:45 am Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Wolfforth Cemetery under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth. Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday January 21, 2017 at Melonie Park Church with Pastor Todd Cepica officiating.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a favorite Christian charity of your choice.
