Nieves "Shorty" Martinez of Lubbock was born August 5, 1920 in Wilson, TX to the late Frank and Geronima (Madrid) Martinez. He married Adelita Flores Jan. 8, 1948. She passed away Sept. 7, 1989. He was a United States Veteran of the Army during WWII receiving 3 medals: European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal & the Bronze Star Medal.
He was a Catholic.

He passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at the age of 88 years 4 months & 21 days.

He is survived by three children: Victor Martinez, Yolanda Martinez & Adelita Anciso all of Lubbock; 3 Grandchildren: Andrea Anciso, Celestina Herrera, and Olivia Anciso; 2 Great-Grandchildren: Cynthia and Samantha Herrera; 1 Sister: Cathrine Torres of Slaton.
