Obituary

Joyce Ann Cherry, 89, of Lubbock was born April 21, 1931 in Jayton, Texas to Clyde Elroy Hagar & Willie "Midge" Annie (Taylor) Hagar.  She was Harvest Queen & graduated Valedictorian from Girard High School.  Robert Elton Cherry and Joyce were married July 24, 1949 at Steele Hill Baptist Church.  He passed away October 13, 2014 after sixty-five years of marriage.
Joyce's heart was filled with a true mission and love for children.  She was a substitute teacher before she even graduated from high school.  Her ministry and children's legacy began at Faith Assembly of God and continued until the age of seventy-nine.  While at the Lubbock State School, Joyce could always be seen hugging and loving the residents.
Joyce and Robert's home was a haven of rest for anyone, including family & strangers.  Visitors could count on getting a home cooked meal, peach cobbler or homemade banana ice cream that she could change to fit a group of two to one hundred! While camping in the Smoky Mountains, her campsite was the only one that offered pancakes with homemade syrup & jelly from the berries we picked.  Her grandkids and family can attest to her unfailing love.
Her love for others was also complimented by her many talents. Joyce loved making ceramics, decorating cakes and making floral arrangements. While managing Tari's Floral Designs in Edna, she could do all three!
Joyce peacefully went to be with her Lord, Monday, June 22, 2020.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson: Philip Thomas Hilton, two brothers, and five sisters.
Those left to cherish her memories are her four daughters: Robbie Hilton & husband Phil, Tari Pilgreen & husband James, Kayla Watson, & Carla Cherry; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren with one on the way and her sister, Bonnie Brannan, along with several nieces & nephews.
Viewing will be from 6 to 8pm Friday, June 26, 2020 at Wilsons' Funeral Directors Chapel in Wolfforth.  Graveside services will be at 11:00am Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Girard Cemetery in Girard, Texas with Philip Hilton officiating and Darren Whalen singing.  Arrangements are under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth.
The family would like to thank the staff at Windmill Village for caring for our mom "Cherry" for the past three years.
