James "J.R." Randall Sutherland, 70, of Lubbock was born September 14, 1950, in Austin, TX to E.J. Sutherland & Jodie (Watkins) Sutherland.  J.R. graduated with a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech.  He worked at Covenant Hospital for several years.  He married Kay Dent June 21, 1975, in Lubbock.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, & taking cruises.  He was a coach for his son's basketball team & helped with the Ballet Lubbock, as well as the Nutcracker & other productions.

J.R. went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 23, 2021.  His parents and 2 siblings: Terry Sanders and Rusty Sutherland preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 46 years: Kay Sutherland, 2 children: Julia Marie Sutherland & Michael Joseph Sutherland and wife Katy, 5 grandchildren: Andre, Emma, Mackenzie, Sydney, & Dillon, and 2 sisters: Julie Carroll & Shelley Walton.

No services are planned at this time.  Cremation is under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth.
