Elpidio Mendez, 88, of Lubbock was born Oct. 10, 1927 Oaxaca Oaxaca, Mexico to Celestino and Angelina (Moreno) Mendez. He retired from Plains Coop Oil Mill. He was a member of Emmanuel Worship Center and enjoyed taking care of the lawn as well as being a Deacon, Layman, Sunday School Teacher and being a superintendent of the Sunday School. He enjoyed going to the Maggie Trejo Senior Center and playing balloon volleyball and socializing there.

Elpidio went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 24, 2016. His parents and a brother: Erasmo Mendez preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 38 years: Josefa Mendez;
9 children: Jaime, Blanca, Bertha Walls, Ricardo & wife JoAnn, Virginia, Ofelia, Ruth, Tony and wife Delores and Willie and his wife Amelia; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way.

Prayer service will be at 6:00pm Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Wilsons' Funeral Directors Chapel in Wolfforth. Services will be at 1:00pm Monday, March 28, 2016 at Emmanuel Worship Center at 1102 70th St. in Lubbock with Rev. Raymundo Almaraz and Pastor Paul Rubalcada officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth
