Obituary

Earl Hiram Ballou was born on April 13, 1930 in Jay, Oklahoma to Hiram King and Ruby (Jeffries) Ballou. He died on October 7, 2008 in Lawton, OK at the age of 78.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel in Lawton, OK with Deacon Herman Lawrence, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Wilsons' Funeral Directors Cemetery in Wolfforth, Texas under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth.

Earl was raised and attended school in Jay, Oklahoma. He joined the Army in May of 1946 where he was a Civil Engineer. After spending 2 ½ years overseas, Earl was discharged in March of 1949. He married Frances Martinez in New Mexico, and settled in the Lubbock, Texas area where they raised their family. Earl was a truck driver for a large grocery chain, and tried his hand as a butcher. After his wife's death in 1982, Earl moved to Oklahoma where he worked with the family business, Danley & Associates, until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed singing, playing guitar and watching westerns, especially John Wayne.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and several brothers and sisters.


Survivors include 4 daughters, Norma Danley and husband Richard of Lawton, Shirley Castillo and husband Joe of Lubbock, Texas, Sandy Brown and husband Bob of Schertz, Texas, and Cynthia Finley and husband Rick of Lawton; 3 sons, Earl Ballou Jr. and wife Tammy of Schertz, Texas, Bruce Ballou and wife Judy of Lawton and Texarkana, and Michael Ballou and wife Judy of Lubbock; 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
