Dortha Ann Hughes, 93. of Lubbock was born April 6, 1916 in Hunt County, Texas, the daughter of John Clifton and Mary Eunice (Porter) Speights. She married Hughlin Thomas Hughes Dec. 25, 1932 in Clovis, NM. He passed away September 4, 1988 after 56 years of marriage. She worked as an LVN until retiring from the Lubbock State School.

Dortha passed away Friday, July 24, 2009 at her residence. She is preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, 4 sisters, her son: Jerry Wayne Hughes and 2 grandsons: Robert Eric Hughes, Jr. and Timothy Hughlin Hughes.

She is survived by her children: George Clifton Hughes & wife Lynn of La Veta, CO; daughter-in-law Lavern Arnold of Henderson, Nevada; H.T. Hughes & wife Carol of Burleson, TX; Moody Dale Hughes and wife Diane of Tuttle, OK; Margaret Ann and husband Carroll Hering of Lake Whitney, TX; Robert Eric Hughes & wife Brenda of Lubbock; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 6pm Monday at Wilsons' Funeral Directors in Wolfforth. Services will be at 10:00am Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Quaker Ave. Church of Christ with David Langford officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors.
