Obituary

The world became a lesser place with the departure of Dorothy Lee Turner Washington as she passed peacefully from this earth for her Heavenly home on May 4, 2016 at the age of 83 years. She was a believer in Jesus Christ and attended LifePoint Church in Lubbock, Texas.

She was the dear mother of her five children, an always joyful grandmother, and loving sister to her three living siblings. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, whom she adored to no end and faithfully called on their birthdays until she was no longer able.

She was a kind and tender-hearted person with a Christian love of all that she encountered. Always a trusted and faithful friend to others, she was known her joyful spirit, unending kindness, and gentle spirit. She was a people person and always enjoyed meeting new people. She delighted in visiting with others, attending and hosting social fellowships and events…and simply spending time with her loving family and dear friends. She loved playing card games, especially her most beloved of all games - Skipbo. She endeavored to always find and see the good in everything and everyone, and taught this same life principle to her children. She abhorred complaining… and never engaged it as she always felt God's care and comfort in every situation.

Dorothy was born to May 9, 1932 in Throckmorton, Texas to Aaron and Ressie Turner. Her childhood was spent in Eastland County Texas until the family settled in Muleshoe, Texas after a short time in both Minnesota and Colorado. It was in Muleshoe that she met and married her husband, Paul Arnold Washington in 1948. They settled in Springlake, Texas on a farm. She remained there until their divorce in 1973 when she moved to Lubbock, Texas and worked as an administrative assistant at a bank and later as a nursing assistant. She retired to Eastland, Texas in 1998 joining her two sisters, Norma and Betty, there. She moved back to Lubbock in 2004 and resided in a senior living center until her health began to fail.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Paul Arnold Washington, and three of her siblings: Williard, Ruby, and Betty.

She is survived by her children: Randy Washington of Georgetown, Cretia Washington Defoor of College Station, Brent Washington of Hobbs, NM, Jeffery Washington of Perryton, and Steven Washington of Lubbock. Also surviving her are her four living siblings: Buck Turner of Temple, Norma Turner Duke of Lubbock, Calvin "Sonny" Turner of Prescott, AZ, and Ann Turner Vinson of Prairie Hill. She also leaves behind many beloved friends and will be missed by all.
