Obituary

Dorothy Ruth Johnston Prudhomme, age 63, passed from this life on April 1, 2019 after a five year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, James D. Johnston of Friona, TX and survived by her two sons, Andrew Son, wife Charlotte, and granddaughter Skyler of Copperas Cove, TX, Nathan Son of Lubbock, TX, mother Mary Johnston of Friona, TX, two brothers, Larry Johnston of Friona, TX, Bryan Johnston and wife Allison of Friona, TX, one sister, Diane Bryant and husband David of McKinney, TX, six nieces and four nephews.

Born in Fort Worth, TX on October 17, 1955, Dorothy moved to Friona, TX with her family in 1962. She attended Friona Public Schools for 12 years and graduated in 1974. After graduation she attended West Texas State University where she earned a degree in Music Education in 1978. She later earned a teaching certificate in Elementary Education before embarking on a teaching career that spanned almost 30 years with stops in Waco, Dallas, Tyler, Friona and Richardson.

Music was Dorothy's passion in life. While in college, she traveled and performed extensively with the WTSU Chorale. Later, she also performed with the Tyler Civic Chorale and the Longview Opera.

Shortly after retiring in 2014, Dorothy was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer and moved to Lubbock to be closer to her family. During her five year battle with cancer, her extended family grew to include the ladies in her Sunday school class at Second Baptist Church Lubbock, her dear friend Glenda Richards, and all of the wonderful doctors and staff at UMC Southwest Cancer and Research Center. The love, concern, encouragement and care they provided was beyond compare. To each and every one of them we offer our heartfelt gratitude.

At Dorothy's request, there will be no formal services. A private celebration of life will be arranged at a later date. The family requests memorials be sent to: Hope Class
