David Don
Preston
September 20, 1965 – January 17, 2025
David Don Preston, 59, was born September 20, 1965, in Lubbock, Texas. David went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 17, 2025. David graduated from Coronado High School in 1984 and attended Texas Tech University.
David loved being a dad. His daughters were the light in his life. David's faith and love for the Lord strengthened him throughout his life, and he loved attending church. He served as a greeter at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas.
David worked for Southwest Airlines for 25 years, where he held several titles, the last being at the corporate office in Dallas, Texas. After he retired from SWA, he decided to jump into something new and worked in the oil and gas industry for several years before he returned to a career he began when he was in his early 20s, an Electrical Lineman. He worked as a safety officer, above-ground lineman, below-ground lineman, and foreman for 4 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
David spent many years as an athlete. He was a competitive triathlete, and he realized that his true strength was cycling. He competed as a Category 3 cyclist and was a successful cycling coach for many years. He served as an officer in the West Texas Cycling Club and assisted with many organized races, camps, and fundraisers.
David also profoundly loved cooking and growing his own herbs and vegetables. He loved seeing someone enjoy one of his "masterpieces" but always thought there was a way to improve it.
One of David's most significant attributes was his humor. He had the ability to make people laugh and enjoy life. None could deny his power to light up a room with his wit or dance skills. David had a presence that surpassed many.
David's legacy lives on through his children, Christen Vogler and Allyssa Pagel (Erik Pagel). He has four grandchildren (two boys, Andrew and Red, and two girls, Samantha and Caroline). He is survived by his mother, Shady Mowery, father, Don Preston (Vickie Preston), sister LaDon Madden (Ron Madden), and many extended family and friends.
Services will be at 12:00pm Friday, January 24, 2025 at Wilsons' Funeral Directors Chapel in Wolfforth with Mike Martindale of Heights Fellowship officiating. Private Burial will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth.
