Obituary

Carl Edward Abston of Lubbock was born February 25, 1915 in Antlers, OK to James W. & Hattie Elizabeth (Chappel) Abston. He graduated in 1933 as valedictorian from O'Brien High School in O'Brien, TX. He owned McLain Oil Company Service Station for 12 years and later owned Carl's Corner Package Store from 1967 to 1983 when he retired. He married Frances Baker Sept. 16, 1967 in Lubbock. She passed away at age 81in 2003.

Carl passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Slaton Care Center in Slaton just six days after celebrating his 94th birthday with his three daughters, Bettye, Bobbie and Dianne and his son Rick. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.

Carl is survived by his twin daughters Bettye Gafford and husband Floyd of Amarillo, Bobbie Fuque and husband Glenne of San Antonio, daughter Dianne Breazeale and husband Larry of Amarillo; and son Rick Abston and wife Debbie of Slaton; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; 2 stepsons: Mike and Wilton Harris.

Services will be at 1:00pm Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Wilsons' Funeral Directors Chapel. Entombment will be in Wilsons' Funeral Directors Cemetery.
