Bobby Neal
Malone
March 14, 1936 – January 25, 2025
Bobby Neal Malone, 88, of Lubbock was born March14, 1936 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to Robert O'Neal Malone and Opal Verna (Creighton) Malone. Bob passed on January 24, 2025. As a young boy he traveled from oil patch to oil patch with his parents; his dad was a roughneck and a driller. Eventually ending up in Monahans, Tx he enjoyed playing football and basketball. Of course, basketball is what he excelled in, as his mother was a member of the Grandfield Oklahoma's high school girl's team. After high school Bob worked in the oilfield. When asked what job he performed in the oilfield, he stated " I worked 90 feet up." After a short time in the oilfield he attended Odessa Junior College. He became interested in accounting. He said that a couple of professors encouraged him and he did well in his studies.
He married Mary Lynn Mills in 1956, moved to Midland and worked for a couple of different companies and decided Lubbock would be a good place to work and raise a family. In 1963 he got a job with Edwin Merriman accounting firm and the journey began. He studied and passed the Certified Public Accounting test and became a CPA. He practiced accounting and retired completely at the age of 86.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lynn, daughter Jan Thompson and his special friend Pat Scott. He is survived by Mike Malone and wife Linda, Erin Blain and husband Bobby and Kelly O'Guinn and husband Cory. Bobby had 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
