Ava Doris Watson was called to be with her Lord and her departed loved ones on June 28, 2018. She was born, as she always put it, "on the banks of the Red River", near Durant, Oklahoma on October 12, 1932. She moved to Lubbock in 1950 and was a long-time member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Bertha (Wilson) Cheek and six brothers and four sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Wanda McKay and Cheryl Langham, both of Lubbock, and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, and great-great-nephews and nieces, all who will miss her dearly.

Ava had a great love of country, folk, and bluegrass music-especially the gospel versions of those genres. Her greatest love, however was her love of family and she helped to raise many of her nephews and nieces, and even great nephews and nieces as if they were her own. She was a kind-hearted soul and believed in doing right by everyone. She always said, "If you'll be good to me, then I'll be good to you", and she lived her life by that philosophy and on Godly principles.

The family will receive visitors from 1 to 3:00pm Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Wilsons' Funeral Directors Chapel in Wolfforth. Services will be at 11:00am Monday, July 2, 2018 at Oakwood Baptist/ One Accord Fellowship Church at 6002 Ave. U in Lubbock. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth.
